Wyoming Unit 65 is classic Bighorn Basin high desert, a wide rain-shadow bowl where bone-dry badlands and sagebrush benches drop abruptly into the irrigated green of the Shoshone and Bighorn river valleys, and deer hunters live on that green-to-brown transition line. The floor bottoms out near 3,600 feet along Bighorn Lake, climbs through juniper and mountain-mahogany benches, and tops out around 8,100 feet on Heart Mountain, with water (rivers, canals, and scattered guzzlers) organizing every movement in this arid country.
