Wyoming Deer Area 64 is the Owl Creek unit, a place where an east-west mountain wall dams two great basins, and that single spine dictates everything for deer hunters. The floor drops to about 4,300 feet of sagebrush and greasewood badlands along the Bighorn River near Thermopolis, then climbs across juniper foothills into Douglas fir and aspen before the Owl Creek crest presses near 9,900 feet. Water is the pivot: perennial mountain drainages like Owl Creek and Cottonwood Creek pull animals during dry stretches, while basin stock tanks stay unreliable.
