Wyoming's Unit 27 is a study in extremes for deer hunters: sweeping Wyoming big sage basins at 4,800 to 5,400 feet that climb abruptly through broken foothills into timbered rim country topping 9,500 feet, where Douglas fir and limber pine take hold. The productive mid-elevation browse, mountain mahogany, bitterbrush, serviceberry, and snowberry, drives the herd, while hidden mountain seeps along the upper rims hold animals through dry stretches and winter pushes deer onto south-facing benches at 5,500 to 7,000 feet.
