Wyoming Unit 116 plays against type: instead of windswept plains, deer hunters get a piece of the Black Hills, rolling ponderosa ridges and limestone-rimmed canyons rising out of mixed-grass prairie in Crook County's Bear Lodge Mountains. Elevations climb from roughly 3,500 feet along the Belle Fourche drainage to about 6,600 feet at Warren Peak, with bur oak mast, chokecherry, and mountain mahogany feeding the edges, and water concentrating at hidden limestone seeps when creeks like Sand and Beaver go subsurface.
