Washington Unit 615 is coastal temperate rainforest on the western Olympic Peninsula, one of the wettest corners of the lower 48, where elk work the clearcut edges and early-successional forage (salmonberry, huckleberry, young alder) rather than the dry water-scarce country most western units offer. Ground runs from sea level along the Queets and Clearwater drainages up to roughly 2,500 to 3,500 feet near the national park boundary, with public DNR forest broken up by private timber gates and US 101 the only paved artery.
