GMU 603, the Dickey unit, hides in the far northwest corner of Washington's Olympic Peninsula, a coastal temperate rainforest where elk hunters work short sightlines under heavy conifer canopy rather than open Western country. Most of the huntable ground sits between 200 and 1,200 feet along the Dickey River and its forks, a wet mosaic of DNR timber, industrial blocks, and tribal boundaries, where 3 to 10 year old clearcuts carry the thickest salmonberry and huckleberry browse.
