Washington's GMU 121, the Huckleberry Unit, is close-cover elk country, not glassing country: a north-south spine of heavily timbered ridges in Stevens County, walled on the west by Lake Roosevelt and laced with perennial creeks like Hunters and Cottonwood. Most huntable ground works the 2,500 to 4,500 ft band, where clearcut regrowth, huckleberry, and serviceberry pull elk through a patchwork of public and private timber holdings.
