Unit 246, the Slide Ridge Unit, stacks more than 7,000 feet of vertical relief into a block only about 21 miles wide, climbing from the 1,100-foot surface of Lake Chelan to peaks above 8,400 feet along the Glacier Peak Wilderness edge. Deer hunters here play the bands: bitterbrush and bunchgrass on low sunny benches, then Twenty-Five Mile Creek and Lake Creek drainages, then high huckleberry basins near Saska and Emerald Peaks, with part of the shoreline reachable only by boat.
