GMU 218 (Cowiche) is classic eastern-Cascade transition country, where pine-studded ridges fracture into broken basalt canyon and sage-steppe basins, a step-and-bench landscape that rewards deer hunters who read terrain over those who walk straight lines. It runs from roughly 1,400 ft along the Naches and Tieton corridors up near 6,000 ft at the western divide, with the productive oak-and-ponderosa band in between and acorn mast and bitterbrush driving the feed. Off-drainage water stays sparse, so springs matter.
