Washington's GMU 121, the Huckleberry Unit, is close-cover deer country, not glassing country: a north-south spine of heavily timbered, rolling ridges in Stevens County, falling from roughly 5,800 feet on Huckleberry Mountain down to 1,300 feet along Lake Roosevelt, with most hunting happening in the 2,500 to 4,500 foot band. Perennial creeks like Hunters and Cottonwood lace nearly every drainage, while clearcut regrowth, huckleberry, and serviceberry pull deer through a patchwork of public and private timber.
