GMU 117, the "49 Degrees North" unit, is closed-canopy Inland Northwest timber country straddling the divide between the Colville and Pend Oreille valleys, where deer hunters work cut edges and creek bottoms rather than long-range glassing. Most usable ground sits in the 2,500 to 4,500 ft band, with 3 to 10 year clearcuts driving the forage and perennial water (the Little Pend Oreille, Cedar Creek, Tacoma Creek) braiding nearly everywhere.
