Monroe Mountain is a "tabletop with cliffs," a high volcanic plateau (the Sevier Plateau) that rises abruptly from the Sevier Valley floor near 5,300 feet to Monroe Peak at roughly 11,226 feet, so elk hunters face punishing escarpment climbs before the rim turns gentle.
