Utah Deer Unit Wasatch Mtns, Lone Peak

Lone Peak is one of Utah's most vertical deer units, a wall of granite and quartzite where the cirque tops out at 11,253 feet and drops roughly 6,000 vertical feet to the Wasatch Front benches in under three air miles. We map how that relief moves deer: north-facing timber pockets above 9,000 feet in the early heat, the 7,500 to 9,500 foot conifer-aspen benches during the October transition, and the oak-brush and mountain mahogany faces above Alpine, Highland, and Draper once snow pushes animals low.
