Nine Mile is a deer hunter's puzzle of deeply incised sandstone canyons dropping south off the West Tavaputs Plateau, where elevations run from roughly 5,200 feet in the lower drainages to about 10,200 feet on the timbered rim. Nine Mile Creek and Range Creek are the only truly perennial water, but both run largely private at the bottom, so deer concentrate on the public side canyons, Gambel oak benches, and aspen pockets that feed them.
