Antelope Island is unlike any mainland deer hunt: a treeless, wind-scoured sage-and-grass massif rising straight out of the Great Salt Lake, reached only by the 7-mile Syracuse causeway. Mule deer here live by the rules of water and wind, tethered to a few developed springs across slopes that climb from the 4,200-foot shoreline benches to 6,596-foot Frary Peak, feeding on bluebunch wheatgrass, ricegrass, and sage with mahogany and serviceberry tucked into steep western draws.
