Pennsylvania's WMU 4C is a folded Appalachian maze where long forested ridges (Bald Eagle, Nittany, White Deer, and Jacks Mountains) run northeast to southwest, and for bear hunters that laurel-choked, rhododendron-thick terrain between the spines is where it pays to know the ground. Floors sit near 500 to 700 feet and climb past 2,200, with springs and seeps breaking out where sandstone meets shale roughly two-thirds up the slope, and acorn crops dictating movement.
