Water is a genuine strength here: the upper Pecos River, Rio Mora, and Holy Ghost Creek run perennially off deep snowpack, while elk work Gambel oak, mountain mahogany, and aspen regeneration across mid-elevation benches between roughly 9,000 and 10,500 feet.
