Unit 12 deer hunters are really hunting the Jemez volcanic field, where open grassland valles sit ringed by steep timbered domes and slot-like tuff canyons that radiate outward like spokes. Productive ground runs the 8,000 to 10,500 ft band, with rare-for-New-Mexico perennial water in the East Fork Jemez, San Antonio Creek, and Rio Cebolla, plus browse-rich Gambel oak, mountain mahogany, and aspen burn scars feeding deer.
