Unit 7 is the Jemez Mountains in full volcanic form, where the collapsed Valles Caldera drops grassy parks into mixed-conifer ridges, and bear hunters can work that mosaic of dark timber, charred burn regen from the Las Conchas and Thompson Ridge fires, and oak-rich canyon mouths. The unit runs from roughly 6,500 ft along the Jemez River corridor to about 11,250 ft on Chicoma Mountain, with bears keying on gambel oak acorns, aspen-suckered burns, and perennial water like San Antonio Creek and the Rio Cebolla.
