Nevada Unit 46 is fault-block Great Basin country where deer live on vertical relief: the Sonoma Range spikes to roughly 9,396 feet at Sonoma Peak, nearly 5,000 feet above the sagebrush valleys near 4,300 feet, with the East Range flanking to the west. Water is the whole game here, confined to a few high canyon seeps and unreliable guzzlers, while bitterbrush, mountain mahogany, and aspen stringers concentrate deer in an otherwise dry range.
