Nevada Deer Unit 196

Sightings, hotspots, and hunt insights for Nevada Game Management Unit 196.

Peavine Mountain defines this deer unit, a rounded volcanic massif rising almost 4,000 vertical feet straight off the northwest edge of the Reno valley, so short horizontal distances become serious climbs on loose volcanic footing. From a 4,500-foot sagebrush and bitterbrush floor along the Truckee River, the slopes band up through a pinyon-juniper and mountain-mahogany belt into Jeffrey pine and aspen near the roughly 8,269-foot summit and the California state-line ridges toward Dog Valley. Water is the limiting factor here, scarce and seasonal on the mountain, and the private-land checkerboard along the urban edge shapes access. Our pack covers Unit Overview and Topography, Vegetation and Hydrology, Seasonal Expectations, Logistics and Access, and a one-page Essential Recon summary. Study the unit on our interactive map, then export the points you choose to onX or your favorite hunting map.

How this data was collected

Data Hunt Guide aggregates publicly available sighting reports from across the web (social media, hunting forums, harvest reports, and trail-camera shares) and uses a proprietary algorithm to identify high-activity zones (hotspots) within each unit. Our team verifies coordinates manually before publication.
