Montana's Hunting District 110 hides its elk in country that feels more Pacific Northwest than Rockies: glacial-carved Yaak River valleys and the timbered southern flanks of the Purcell Mountains, where canopy is near continuous and sightlines die within fifty yards. Floors near 1,800 feet climb toward 7,700, but elk live the 3,500 to 6,500 band on huckleberry and serviceberry benches and avalanche-chute regrowth, with water functionally unlimited across perennial drainages.
