Montana Deer Unit 704

Sightings, hotspots, and hunt insights for Montana Game Management Unit 704.

Montana's HD 704 is where the Northern Great Plains crash into the timbered ridges of the Custer National Forest's Ashland District, a deceptively rugged sweep of sandstone rims, ponderosa finger ridges, and grassy coulees draining toward the Powder and Tongue Rivers. Deer hunters here live and die by two things: water and boundaries. Floor elevations near 2,900 feet in the creek bottoms climb to roughly 4,400 feet on the pine ridges, with most interior country fed only by stock tanks and intermittent seeps, and a genuine public-private checkerboard governing every legal step. The pack lays it all out: Unit Overview and Topography, Vegetation and Hydrology, Seasonal Expectations, Logistics and Access, plus a one-page Essential Recon summary. Study the unit on our interactive map, then export the points you choose to onX or your favorite hunting map.

How this data was collected

Data Hunt Guide aggregates publicly available sighting reports from across the web (social media, hunting forums, harvest reports, and trail-camera shares) and uses a proprietary algorithm to identify high-activity zones (hotspots) within each unit. Our team verifies coordinates manually before publication.
