Montana's HD 590 is a true two-world deer unit: a glacier-scoured Beartooth alpine ceiling above 12,000 feet sitting atop a steep, conifer-choked mid-mountain belt that finally eases into foothill benches near the lower northern boundary, with river floors around 5,200 feet. Deer key on mid-mountain benches between roughly 7,000 and 9,000 feet, working timber edges, old burns, and forage like serviceberry, snowberry, and elk sedge, while private inholdings along the Stillwater and Boulder corridors gate access to public Custer Gallatin ground.
