Montana's Hunting District 120 is a folded northwestern landscape where the Tobacco Valley floor near 2,400 feet climbs sharply into the Whitefish Range and Ten Lakes high country above 8,600 feet, so deer hunting here is a story of elevation and timing. Animals shift from cool north-facing timber and alpine benches early to mid-mountain larch and huckleberry browse, then drift toward low Tobacco Valley wintering grounds and south-facing Kootenai exposures once snow arrives. Old 2017 and 2018 burn scars now hold prime regenerative forage.
