Montana's Hunting District 100 hides in the far northwestern corner against the Canadian and Idaho borders, an inland-temperate rainforest where deer hunters trade long sightlines for dark, brush-choked timber and 80-yard "open country." The Yaak River drainage and the Purcell Mountain spine stack the unit from roughly 1,800 feet on the Kootenai bottom to about 7,700 feet on Northwest Peak, with regenerating clearcuts and huckleberry brush feeding deer between.
