Central Minnesota's Unit 225 is intimate, close-cover deer country, not big-vista terrain: a glaciated patchwork of hardwood woodlots, sand-plain pine and oak, cattail sloughs, and tamarack bog where relief runs only about 300 feet, from roughly 900 feet in the river bottoms to near 1,250 on the northern moraine crowns. Deer key on the edges here, oak hard mast and crop lines of corn and soybean bordering the Rum, Snake, and Groundhouse River drainages, and public State ground checkerboards with private, so boundaries matter.
