Michigan Unit 62 is a glacial outwash mosaic where the Muskegon River and its impoundments at Hardy and Croton Ponds split the unit into distinct northern and southern blocks separated by water and few bridge crossings. Elevations run from roughly 600 feet in the cedar-swamp bottoms to 1,050 feet along sandy oak-pine barrens, where red and white oak mast drives fall deer movement and public Manistee National Forest ground checkerboards with private inholdings.
