Michigan's Deer Unit 26 sits in the eastern Upper Peninsula, where water, not elevation, dictates everything: this is low-relief glaciated boreal country of sandy outwash plains, hardwood ridges, and vast cedar and spruce lowland swamps, with elevations climbing only from roughly 580 feet along the Great Lakes shorelines to about 900 to 1,000 feet on interior sand ridges.
