Idaho Unit 4 is a temperate inland rainforest tucked into the far northern Panhandle, where the southern Selkirk Mountains rise from the Kootenai bottoms near 1,800 feet to a crest above 7,000 feet, and deer hunters live or die by that brutal verticality. This is timber-choked country with understory so thick visibility often drops under 30 yards, where huckleberry benches and 10 to 25 year old burns drive the deer, and where water saturation, not scarcity, is the real story.
