Unit 60's signature for turkey hunters is the Cochetopa aspen belt between roughly 8,500 and 9,800 feet, some of the largest contiguous groves in North America, interlaced with Gambel oak that drops acorns in mast years on warmer slopes. Below that, sagebrush and pinyon-juniper benches near Saguache Creek hold year-round water, while springs and beaver complexes keep the aspen understory green late into dry seasons.
