Colorado's Unit 42 turkeys live in the tiered country on the western flank of the Flat Tops, where sage benches and irrigated bottoms near the White River climb through Gambel oak brush, serviceberry, and mountain mahogany before the basalt rim takes over. That mid-elevation oak band, roughly 7,500 to 9,000 feet, is the productive interface, fed by overlooked, shaded springs and the Marvine Creek and South Fork drainages.
