Colorado Elk Unit 84

Sightings, hotspots, and hunt insights for Colorado Game Management Unit 84.

Colorado Unit 84 is a ribbed landscape on the southern flank of the San Juan Mountains, where every mile of north-south travel drops into a timbered creek bottom and climbs out the other side, so elk hunters live and die by reading those parallel ridges. The unit runs from sage river bottoms near 6,500 ft along the Navajo and Chama drainages up to subalpine spruce near 11,500 ft, with brutal Gambel oak brush in the 7,500 to 9,000 ft band and a checkerboard of public, private, and Southern Ute boundary that funnels access through a few forest roads. Our pack covers Unit Overview and Topography, Vegetation and Hydrology, Seasonal Expectations, Logistics and Access, plus a one-page Essential Recon summary. You study the unit on our interactive map, then export the points you choose into onX or your favorite hunting map.

How this data was collected

Data Hunt Guide aggregates publicly available sighting reports from across the web (social media, hunting forums, harvest reports, and trail-camera shares) and uses a proprietary algorithm to identify high-activity zones (hotspots) within each unit. Our team verifies coordinates manually before publication.
