Colorado Unit 81 is a unit of long parallel volcanic drainages separated by knife-edge ridges you cannot safely cross on foot, climbing from sage valley floor near 8,000 feet up to a Continental Divide ceiling above 13,100 feet. Elk hunters work the mid-mountain benches between 9,500 and 11,000 feet, the aspen and Gambel oak transition zones, and a genuinely water-rich system fed by the Conejos River, beaver complexes, and high glacial tarns rather than tanks.
