Colorado Elk Unit 8

Sightings, hotspots, and hunt insights for Colorado Game Management Unit 8.

Colorado Elk Unit 8 is a brutal vertical study, climbing from 5,400 ft foothill creek bottoms to above 12,900 ft on the granite spine of the Mummy Range and Comanche Peak Wilderness, with the Rocky Mountain National Park boundary cutting hard through it all. We map how elk shift off the alpine fringe into the 8,500 to 10,500 ft timber benches, where water like the Cache la Poudre and Buckhorn Creek and forage from aspen regeneration to mountain mahogany concentrate movement. The pack delivers Unit Overview and Topography, Vegetation and Hydrology, Seasonal Expectations, Logistics and Access, and a one-page Essential Recon summary. Study the unit on our interactive map, then export the points you choose to onX or your favorite hunting map.

How this data was collected

Data Hunt Guide aggregates publicly available sighting reports from across the web (social media, hunting forums, harvest reports, and trail-camera shares) and uses a proprietary algorithm to identify high-activity zones (hotspots) within each unit. Our team verifies coordinates manually before publication.
