Unit 66 is a high-elevation, public-land elk country anchored by the La Garita Wilderness and the Cochetopa Hills, where open sage mesas drop fast into dark spruce-fir timber broken by signature wet meadow parks. The unit climbs from roughly 7,800 feet along Saguache Creek to above 13,000 feet on the La Garita crest, with perennial water in Cochetopa, Stewart, and Mineral Creeks and aspen, serviceberry, and fescue parks feeding elk through the seasons.
