Colorado Elk Unit 5

Sightings, hotspots, and hunt insights for Colorado Game Management Unit 5.

Colorado GMU 5 sits in the far northwestern corner of the state in Moffat County, a high-desert "basin and bench" world of wide sagebrush flats, sandstone rims, and the Little Snake River drainage rather than alpine peaks, so elk here pattern around water and shade, not elevation. The floor near 6,000 feet climbs to roughly 8,500 feet on the mesa tops, and with only the Little Snake running perennial, animals key on guzzlers, tanks, and rim seeps across bitterbrush and mountain-mahogany browse. Our pack covers Unit Overview and Topography, Vegetation and Hydrology, Seasonal Expectations, Logistics and Access, plus a one-page Essential Recon summary. Study the unit on our interactive map, then export the points you choose to onX or your favorite hunting map.

How this data was collected

Data Hunt Guide aggregates publicly available sighting reports from across the web (social media, hunting forums, harvest reports, and trail-camera shares) and uses a proprietary algorithm to identify high-activity zones (hotspots) within each unit. Our team verifies coordinates manually before publication.
