Colorado Unit 33 is a layered hunt for elk: a basalt-rimmed Flat Tops plateau above 11,500 feet drops through aspen and oak-brush benches into sage and pinyon-juniper river breaks near 5,400 feet along the Colorado River, so elk shift with heat, frost, and snow across that whole gradient. The northern plateau holds genuinely water-rich creeks and beaver complexes while the lower third leans on stock tanks and seasonal springs, and a checkerboard of public and private ground rewards anyone who knows the boundaries.
