Colorado Elk Unit 27

Unit 27 is a two-story elk unit: the sage-covered floor of Middle Park sits near 7,300 feet along the Colorado River and lower Muddy Creek, then climbs 3,000-plus feet into the timbered flanks of the Rabbit Ears and southern Park Range. That vertical spread is the whole story here, with elk stacking along the aspen-sage transition band (roughly 8,500 to 9,800 feet) and holding near beaver ponds, headwater seeps, and cured meadow forage as seasons turn. The catch is access: public timber often sits behind private valley bottoms in a fenceless checkerboard of BLM, State Land Board, and Forest ground.
