Colorado Elk Unit 23

Sightings, hotspots, and hunt insights for Colorado Game Management Unit 23.

GMU 23 elk live in stepped mesa-and-canyon high desert west of Meeker, where flat sagebrush parks break into abrupt 800 to 1,500 foot escarpments climbing toward the Roan Plateau and Cathedral Bluffs. We know where the elevation bands hold animals, from the 5,800 foot Piceance and Yellow Creek bottoms to the 7,500 to 8,500 foot Gambel oak and aspen sweet spot, plus how scarce water and bentonite "gumbo" clay roads govern access. Our pack covers Unit Overview and Topography, Vegetation and Hydrology, Seasonal Expectations, Logistics and Access, and a one-page Essential Recon summary. Study the unit on our interactive map, then export the points you choose to onX or your favorite hunting map.

How this data was collected

Data Hunt Guide aggregates publicly available sighting reports from across the web (social media, hunting forums, harvest reports, and trail-camera shares) and uses a proprietary algorithm to identify high-activity zones (hotspots) within each unit. Our team verifies coordinates manually before publication.
