Tucked into Colorado's far northwest corner, Unit 2 is one of the most isolated stretches in the state, a high-desert-to-mountain mosaic where elk move between the sagebrush oceans of Vermillion and Sand Wash basins and the aspen-and-conifer crown of Cold Spring Mountain. Elevations run from roughly 5,400 feet along the Green River in Browns Park to about 8,800 feet up top, and water is the defining variable: outside a few perennial creeks, elk key on scarce seeps, guzzlers, and tanks near bitterbrush and mountain mahogany browse.
