Unit 191 is where the Wyoming high-desert sage basin collides with the timbered Elkhead Range, a transitional landscape that lets elk hunters glass for miles across rolling sage benches that buckle into broken aspen draws and dark timber. The country runs from roughly 6,400 ft along the Little Snake River bottoms up to 10,400 ft on the Elkhead spine, with elk keying on north-facing aspen seeps, oak brush, and bitterbrush as the lower BLM tanks go dry.
