Colorado Elk Unit 171

Sightings, hotspots, and hunt insights for Colorado Game Management Unit 171.

Colorado Unit 171 is a high, cold sagebrush park cradled by three mountain masses: the Medicine Bow and Rawah high country to the east, the Never Summer along the southeast skyline, and the Park Range to the west, so elk hunters glass miles of open North Park basin, then climb steep timbered fronts to find them. Our pack digs into the bones of it: a floor near 8,000 feet building to a 12,000-foot eastern crest, the North Platte headwaters fed by the Illinois, Michigan, and Canadian Rivers, mountain big sagebrush and bitterbrush feeding the willow carrs, and that legal minefield of checkerboarded private ranch ground. You get Unit Overview and Topography, Vegetation and Hydrology, Seasonal Expectations, Logistics and Access, and a one-page Essential Recon summary. Study the unit on our interactive map, then export the points you choose to onX or your favorite hunting map.

How this data was collected

Data Hunt Guide aggregates publicly available sighting reports from across the web (social media, hunting forums, harvest reports, and trail-camera shares) and uses a proprietary algorithm to identify high-activity zones (hotspots) within each unit. Our team verifies coordinates manually before publication.
