Unit 73 in southwestern Colorado is glassing country first, a stair-step of oak brush benches and pinyon-juniper shelves climbing from the 7,200 ft Dolores River corridor into aspen mid-slopes and a steep spruce-fir high country crowned by 12,600 ft Lone Cone. Deer hunters can read that geometry: Gambel oak mast and bitterbrush on warm southern exposures, reliable water at Groundhog and Lone Cone reservoirs, and a late-season shift onto south-facing slopes below the snow line.
