GMU 58 is a glassing unit at heart, where deer can be picked apart from across Cochetopa Park's open sagebrush expanse, then stalked through the timbered finger ridges of the Cochetopa Hills and northern La Garita foothills. The unit floor near 8,200 feet along Cochetopa Creek climbs toward 12,500 feet at the wilderness edge, with reliable water in Cochetopa and Los Pinos creeks and aspen benches around 9,800 to 10,500 feet that become the caloric engine once frosts cure the grass.
