Colorado Unit 46 is a layered transition unit, where sage and Gambel oak benches climb from the 6,400-foot Roaring Fork and Eagle river bottoms into aspen ridges and the dark spruce-fir tops above 11,500 feet on Red Table and Basalt Mountain. For deer hunters that vertical spread is everything: midday animals hold tight to north-facing aspen pockets and spring-fed seeps, while late snow pushes them down onto south-facing oak slopes where access, not game, becomes the constraint.
