GMU 421 is a dramatic high-country-meets-ranchland unit where deer hunters work the western flank of the Park Range, from Yampa Valley bottoms near 6,800 feet up to Continental Divide peaks topping 12,000 feet. The aspen-conifer edges between 7,800 and 9,200 feet are the nutritional engine, with mountain mahogany, serviceberry, and bitterbrush feeding deer, while Mount Zirkel snowmelt keeps water reliable even late in summer.
