Colorado Unit 37 is a vertical wilderness in the northern San Juan Mountains, where deer hunters work glacially carved drainages that climb from the 6,800 ft Uncompahgre valley floor to above 13,000 ft on the Cimarron crest. The pack maps the aspen benches between 8,000 and 10,000 ft that hold deer through the transition, the Gambel oak and mountain mahogany browse belts they drop into with snow, and reliable water like the West Fork and Middle Fork Cimarron drainages.
