Sitting on the floor of Sierra Valley, the largest alpine valley in the Sierra Nevada, X7a hands deer hunters a rare basin-and-rim puzzle: wet meadow and irrigated ranchland near 5,000 feet climbing hard into the timbered Diamond Mountains that top out around Adams Peak at 8,199 feet.
