California Zone X6a is deer country where the Sierra Nevada's northern tail collapses into Great Basin sagebrush along the California-Nevada line, so deer stack by elevation from the 4,000-foot Honey Lake basin up into the fault-block Diamond and Skedaddle Mountains past 7,500 feet.
